Seattle times workers ratify new contract with raises, parental leave improvements
Seattle Times Union members voted this week to ratify a new contract with The Seattle Times that will secure raises and other improvements for workers. We had strong participation, with the vast majority of members voting on whether to ratify the deal.
The final deal came after members delivered a petition with more than 1,400 signatures from members of the public supporting our fight, including subscribers who urged Seattle Times executives to respect their workers. Thank you so much to everyone who signed!
The final deal will give all union members a 9.24% raise over the three-year life of the contract, along with additional raises for the lowest paid members. Workers also won a ratification bonus, improved parental leave and bereavement leave, seniority for grant-funded employees, quicker access to health insurance for new employees and more.
These wins were thanks to tireless work from our members and strong community support. Thank you again to everyone who spoke to us at a farmers market, noticed one of our posters in your neighborhood and signed the petition. Solidarity!
