Seattle Times workers deliver petition with 1,400+ signatures

Seattle Times union members delivered a petition signed by more than 1,400 people to company executives demanding a fair wage proposal, equal rights for all employees and true parental leave. We urged the company to bring an updated counter proposal on pay to the next bargaining session.

In our comments, we emphasized that the company’s wage proposal for raises of 3%/2%/2% over three years falls far short of what so many of us need to be able to continue to live in the communities we serve — particularly given the dismal single 1% across-the-board raise in the last contract and high inflation last year.

We also shared the vast community support we’ve received through the petition, particularly from subscribers. As one subscriber wrote when signing the petition: “Inflation is going up faster than my wages, yet I continue to subscribe. I do my part, please do your part and provide your reporters with a pay increase allowing them to continue to live locally and support the local community through their reporting.”

We couldn’t agree more.

Thank you SO much to everyone in the community who chatted with us at a farmers market, spotted our posters throughout the city and signed the petition.
